The End of the Road

Here are the photos from the finished 2013 Women Build home and the wonderful family,
The Wendafrash's who have bought it. Many, many thanks to everyone who contributed to the completion of this home either financially and/or with sweat! All your support blew me away!

It's done!

Welcome!

A place to relax

This island was built by the homeowner. Great job!

The homeowners need to budget
for appliances as part of their move in costs.

What home means to the great family :)

They are so happy & grateful
to have had they opportunity to
work for and purchase their first home
It's great to have been apart of raising money
for and building a decent, affordable home for The Wendafrash Family.

Vernier build afternoon

It was a beautiful day for a group from my workplace, Vernier Software & Technology, to come out to our current build site, BraunnerBrook, out in Hillsboro and sweat for a good cause. We got some work done on the property around the foundation of our future ADA home and in the Women Build home in which Vernier employees and partners gave so much of their support to. And let me tell you a little something about these hardworking folks from Vernier.

We know how to shovel it.

And can really haul it.

Then spread it on thick.

We can measure it and nail it.

And slice right through it.

We give it a couple of thin coats.

Then just stand there and smile :)

Many thanks to Jenny (to my right), Fran, Robert, Matt & Debbie!

Picking up where I left off

Hey Folks,

My apologies for the looooong delay between posts. Life demanded my extra time.

Our Women Build home has come a long way since my last post. My May 27th post left us with the siding complete, all walls framed, and insulation about to begin. The following photos show how much progress we've made. :)

The house has been insulated by our volunteers. Contractors came in to do the electrical, plumbing, along with instillation of the water heater & furnace. We hung drywall up throughout the house, using mold resistant drywall in the bath around the tub & sink. A Team Build group came into hang doors, & all the walls were primed with a second coat of white paint. The future homeowner's may buy other paint to make the rooms more homey to them.

View from the front door with the living
room to the right & the kitchen beyond.
The upstairs bath with the tub
we flew in on my April 21st post.
The hallway at the top of the stairs.

And another

pieces waiting to be painted

A message for someone
special from WB crew leader Ri Len :)

Several of our families have closed the sale of their homes and moved in, so houses 1, 5, & 7 are occupied. We are working to complete the finish work on 6 for sale in December. The other houses will also soon be filled with families. It's a wonderful feeling to see the folks you've worked beside for up to a year or so, finally living in the homes they've toiled so hard to own. I know all the volunteers feel as I do, seeing our families reach this important goal, makes all the cold, rainy days worthwhile. :)

Until next time, live your best life, however big or small it may be!

06/01 build day

We had two super groups of volunteers on a lovely, sunny day. Folks from
Perkin Coi & St Luke for Thivent put in a good day's work.

First, get the place organized. With work in a constant flow, there's always cleaning
and organizing to be done. These folks jumped right in

It was all systems go with drywall in house 5, with a few tricky cuts thrown in for good
measure. And if you recognize the fellow in the red hat, you'll see that Terry's back!

Hall was working with some of our volunteers to continue the siding installation on the Women Build house.

St Luke folks also getting the siding on the Thrivent house. They're at the scaffolding stage. :)

RiLen works with some volunteers to get the weed whacker going so they can tidy up the site.

Protecting the siding from any splashes that may occur when they pour concrete for the front porches.

My job for the day? Build a plenum. I had no idea what one was and there are no particular plans as how to build one. So I used my very special skills to make it as frustrating & time consuming as possible. There was still a bit a fiddling to be done at end of day, but it got up. Yeah! The next one should go smother, as is usually the case. I hope :-P

You can see, they made good progress on the WB house.

Until next time, live you best life, however big or small it may be!

05/28 build day

Hey Folks,

Here's a quick post from a Wednesday Women Build day. Ri Len reports we had a seriously hard working group from Buckeye.Pacific. who not only moved a truckload of 3/4 gavel  (an all purpose construction gravel), they moved it twice!!! As if that wasn't enough they continued tto work on the siding on the WB house,

learned to use the chop saw to cut decking posts,

which were used to build the back porch.

They also got the forms set for the future cement pour for the front porch. What a day!

Until next time, live your best life no matter how big or small it may be.
